Tony Clark is gone from the MLBPA after an inappropriate relationship with his sister-in-law tanked the union's credibility right when baseball needs strong labor leadership most. Yikes.
Bruce Meyer, the No. 2 union official, will lead the charge in the negotiating of the new Collective Bargaining Agreement as the current one expires on December 1.
The Recap
No games yesterday. Spring training mode is in full swing: stretching, shagging flies, and cranking out bunting drills. Mainly roster changes and a lot of social media hype from spring training.
Here’s our favorite(?), Yankees players rolling a quarter into a fork.
Rigging Pitches and Stanton Feels Incomplete
Cleveland pitchers Emmanuel Clase and Yohan Ortiz pleaded not guilty to federal fraud charges for allegedly rigging pitch outcomes with sports bettors. Yes…. Two active MLB pitchers, one of them an All-Star closer, are accused of telling gamblers what pitches were coming. Their trial got pushed to October, which means this cloud hangs over the Guardians all season. Pete Rose got banned for betting on his own team. This is potentially worse. If prosecutors have receipts, we’re looking at another pretty damning view of athletes ruining themselves and smearing their own sport.
Meanwhile, Giancarlo Stanton told reporters his Yankees career feels "incomplete" without a ring. He's 36, injury-prone, and carrying a contract that looks worse every year. This might be his last real shot.

60 Bangers from Behind the Plate
Cal Raleigh hit 60 home runs in 2025—the most ever by a catcher in a single season. Johnny Bench's record was 45. Mike Piazza never cracked 41. Raleigh didn't just break the record; he obliterated it while catching 130+ games. Catchers aren't supposed to do this. They're supposed to frame pitches, manage staffs, and maybe hit 25 bombs if they're elite. Essentially that’s a lot of home runs by someone who squats for their job.
You can read more about this absurdity here.
For the Fantasy Nerds
It’s only spring training, but if your league drafts early, target catchers who can actually hit. The position seems to have gotten a power upgrade last year with William Contreras, Yainer Diaz, and Shea Langeliers who all went deep 30+ times last year. Don't settle for a black hole behind the plate.
Temper expectations on Giancarlo Stanton. "Unfinished business" quotes are great for motivation, terrible for fantasy reliability. He's a DH-only guy who missed 40 games last year. Draft him in the middle rounds, not the early ones.
We’ll keep the fantasy talk there for today, or at least until we hear that Ohtani went 25 for 25 hitting into a net, then we’ll dive deep into the meaning of that.
Current Standings
The Dodgers, Rockies, and Marlins are all tied. Anything is still possible. Right?
